I only use my micro for melting things/heating up leftovers so no actual cooking. I could get by without one, but would never eat leftovers again![]()
I've been without one for a week...my kids bought me one (which I opened this morning). I think it was the inability to make popcorn that gave them the idea
I missed it most for my veggies, I hate cooking them on the stovetop with water in a saucepan, they come out so much soggier and more blah than in the nuker.
I would give up my microwave before I would give up my dishwasher. But I really use my dishwasher to wash dishes. I see so many people practically wash their dishes before they put them in the dishwasher. Mine go in really dirty.
Have you tried roasting veggies? They are so good roasted.
It drives me crazy when people wash dishes before putting them in the dishwasher. And yes, I know some people have crappy dishwashers but I know plenty of people have fine dishwashers and they still do, even if they are going to be running it right away.
I don't even rinse mine, I just scrape the large stuff off. The two exceptions are egg and fish if I don't run it right away. The fish because it smells.
If I don't run the dishwasher for a couple of days I sometimes push the rinse and hold button but usually don't even need to do that.
Actually, I've read that if you wash the dishes first the dishwasher detergent will tend to etch the dishes because it doesn't have enough food to work on.
Winter is icumen in, [ 1 ]
Lhude sing Goddamm, [ 2 ]
Raineth drop and staineth slop,
And how the wind doth ramm!
Sing: Goddamm.
Skiddeth bus and sloppeth us,
Freezeth river, turneth liver,
An ague hath my ham.
Damm you; Sing: Goddamm.
Goddamm, Goddamm, 'tis why I am, Goddamm,
So 'gainst the winter's balm.
Sing goddamm, damm, sing goddamm,
Sing goddamm, sing goddamm, DAMM.
I think we would starve without ours. Fact of the matter, we have two that are in use on a daily basis. Plus, I have a very small one in the basement that I had, pre-married and when I lived in a tiny apartment without an oven.
I use my microwave all the time to defrost meat. I would miss that but it's really just a matter of planning ahead, which isn't always my strong suit. My kids also use it all the time to heat up a bowl of soup, hot chocolate or popcorn. I lived without one until I was in my 20's, but I would miss it.
HL, I do rinse the chunky stuff off my dishes b/c we found that even though our dishes were getting clean, the food was clogging up our dishwasher.
I haven't had a dishwasher for the better part of the last decade.![]()
Eminently practical and yet appropriate as always.
