Reputation Points and Rep Altering Power explained!
Rep Power (the number you see near your green boxes) that is the number of points your "rep" is worth. It is earned by gaining reputation points along with a couple of other things:
You earn Rep Altering Power based on the number of days you have been here and the number of Rep Points you acquire.
For every 30 days, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.
For every 300 posts, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.
For every 300 points of reputation, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.
Reputation Points (the number you see in your Control Panel) are the number of points you have acquired based on the above parameters.

My rep altering power (based on number of days here, number or posts, and number of rep points )
My reputation points total (based on rep I have received) in my User Control Panel
My Rep Power broken down:
# of posts is 17,332 divided by 300 = 57 (1 point is awarded for every 300)
# of rep points is 1938 divided by 300 = 6
# of 30 days here (10 months/ 1 point per month) = 10
That is my rep altering powering
Rep points are earned when a fellow member "reps" your post.
Either in agreement or in fun.
It is done by clicking on this symbol in their post
You can rep whenever you want. There's a picture of a scale in the bottom left corner of a post. See it between the report a post button an the red/blue/green dot? Click on it and a drop down menu will come up. Either approve (rep) or disapprove (smite) the comment and there's a space to leave the comment in their User CP.
Also, rep is not considered "private" in the sense that either party can disclose what was said in reps/PM's w/o breaking any board rules. Don't say it unless you trust the person or are willing to have your words publicized.
