I think this may be a turning point in the expectations we have for the police.

He clearly violated this woman's civil rights! Yay for the FBI hopefully getting involved!

It doesn't hurt that she's a white woman. So yeah, maybe. People are pissed off.

She's white and she has one of those jobs that people perceive as practically sanctified (I've had her exact job and experienced that perception). It's unfortunate that other people's lives haven't mattered enough to cause such outcry.

She's white, she's a nurse, there's very clear video, and she did nothing that anyone can spin to make her look guilty. She is perhaps the "perfect victim". Sad, and yet maybe it will lead to meaningful change somehow.

It also doesn't hurt that there are 5 million people in her profession who all thought "that could be me...oh hellllllll naw!" and spoke out.

I have heard people try to justify some of what happened with "She shouldn't have resisted" or "she should have just done it" etc. Thankfully they are the minority. But I agree, I hope that it leads to some kind of change, even if the reality is that there has been enough evidence for years that there needed to be some change.

Payne's attorney, Gregory Skordas, acknowledged Payne "made mistakes," but said "it's clear from all accounts that there was fault at virtually every level."

People need to catch up to the fact that it's 2017 and the old corrupt way of doing things isn't going to be as easy when almost everyone has a cell phone and can take video with the touch of a button.

I hope this is the catalyst for change that's well overdue, this type of behaviour is unfair to the public and also does a great disservice to the policemen and women that are not assholes.
