    Platonic male-female cohabitation

What are your thoughts on 18 & 19yo males & females living together platonically?

I'm OK with it. At that age, every roommate situation can have problems. My observation from people I know is that young people now are just more chill about gender issues.

No issues. If it was me, however, chances of eventual canoodling pretty damn high.

Meh. Sex with a non-romantic friend is sometimes just what a person needs ...

I've known tons of non-canoodling opposite gender roommates. Not a worry for me.

I've known quite a few canoodling same gender roommates, too lol. Not a worry for me.

I have no problem with it. When dd was a junior in college, she shared an apartment with another female and two males. I think with the exception of one of the male roommates, everyone had their own relationship outside of the apartment renters. It all went fine.

At that age they are adults and I think it's important to learn how to navigate relationships with the opposite sex in ways that don't include sex; ideally they've had opportunities before this point. The problem arises when one of them wants to take it to the next level and the feeling is not mutual. That gets messy in a hurry, but otherwise I think there is great value in that dynamic.

    That's actually a word!

I have a friend who was sharing her house with various male renters over time. Two she asked to move because they became enamored with her and made her feel uncomfortable, and the last one made her pregnant. They now live in the house as a 3-some. So much for "platonic"

I lived with platonic male roommates just as much as female, from the age of 20-25. One was a friend with a crush on me (he told a mutual friend), but there was no canoodling with any of them.

I had one in college. As it turned out he was waiting for me to break up with my boyfriend. Of course I did not see that coming. Awkward doesn't begin to cover it.
