Ok, some things to consider if you have not:

Form an LLC. You want to keep any farm liability away from you, personally.

Consider putting the LLC in your name only. As a woman farmer, you may qualify for government grants/assistance that a male farmer would not. I get free crop insurance, for example, because I own the farm.

If you are selling products (honey, eggs, meat, veggies) consider buying liability insurance. I have $2mm and it is crazy cheap. I can give you contact info.

An accountant can advise you on how to file your taxes (schedule c vs schedule f) and what is best for you, financially.

    I use quickbooks.

    Thank you everyone!

And thank you PL! Dh would be just fine with the farm business being in my name. He's game but it's really not his love.

Admittedly, I do not know how to use Excel. I should probably learn, but it sounds like Quickbooks would be a good choice.

I was also going to recommend Quickbooks. There are tutorials online. I have my book from my QB class around here somewhere, if you think it might be helpful once you buy the program. But, IIRC, there are plenty of tutorials and info that comes with the program.

PL has some excellent advice. :)

Add me to the Excel bench. Very easy. I have one file for expenses, split up by expense types that you'll find on the Schedule F, and one file for revenues. I'd be happy to send you the files as templates. Let me know!
