    Potluck birthday party

3 year old having a birthday party at an outdoor pool. Parents request people bring a dish for a potluck. Tacky, Or no?

Weird, if it's your party and your idea and you ask people to provide food?
Opportunities are usually disguised as hard work, so most people don't recognize them.

Sittin' on the tacky bench. Well, the bench isn't tacky, but the parents in the OP sure are!

I'd likely decline a kid's birthday party invite where I was expected to cater the occasion.

"We're hosting a birthday party for 3 year olds. Just so you don't assume that you can drop them off and leave them with us for three hours, please bring adult food to share with the other parents. We're just paying for the kid food. We're not paying for extra pizza or hot dogs for you. You might get cake."

I think it's weird to have a potluck at a venue, because for one thing, they don't usually allow outside food.

However, around here, party seems to by synonymous with potluck. It's pretty hard to convince people that I don't want them to bring a salad!
