I probably wouldn't think twice if my trash can was by the curb and someone did it, although I can't see myself feeling okay to do that. I would be totally weirded out of someone walked into my yard where we keep our trash cans and recycling bins to throw something away.

I don't mind if people toss it in my bin when it's at the end of the street on pick up day, we have bins with wheels that get dumped by an arm on a truck so everything gets dumped and I'm just happy it's not on my lawn. I would be bothered if someone walked down my driveway and put it in the bin beside my house, the bins are right under the kitchen window and if I was standing there at the time I would definitely be startled and the dog would lose his little mind.

This was being debated on one of my local FB groups and I was really surprised at how many people were at either extreme - some said it's incredibly rude to ever touch someone else's bin and others said it's perfectly fine to walk up the driveway because everyone knows that garbage bins are pretty much public property anyway.

ETA: I was trying to think of when it would be acceptable to go onto someone's property and the only example I could think of that I've done is once when I saw a squirrel chew through a hydro wire and burst into flame, he got fried and when he hit the ground he started a grass fire that was quickly spreading towards their house. I grabbed the hose and stood by the house spraying it until the fire trucks arrived, it spread in the other direction really fast

I would never even notice. I try to NEVER take the trash out. If DH doesn't do it, Matthew does it. If Matthew doesn't do it, Johnny does it. If it gets all the way to me and I HAVE to take it out, I go to the can, close my eyes and hold my breath and toss it in quickly and run away. I hate trash cans.

Ours already stink if it's warm outside because there is usually some sort of dead possum or rat or squirrel in it. Velma is a monster.

Now, if someone placed it in my recycle bin, it would irritate me. As long as it's the trash can though, I don't care. There are worse things in there.

I feel like I need to invent a drink recipe called the flaming squirrel. Hazelnut liquor and Fireball, maybe?

I would definitely rather that they put it in the can at the curb than just leave it, but I would not be okay with walking up the driveway and putting it in the can behind the house.

When I walked the dog, I would put dog poop bags on top of boxes or something that were sitting beside the garbage can but not in the garbage can itself. We only have garbage pickup once/week, and it was the best day for walking the dog, because I didn't have to lug the poop bag home...

    Flaming squirrel.

Anyway... If Terra does her business while we are walking I always take it home and dispose of it then continue our walk. I would be all if someone put their poop in our can, but I wouldn't lose my mind. Better there than on my lawn.

Mine is going backwards. They recently banned all glass and soft plastic (like shopping bags and food wrap) from the curbside recycling because, who the hell knows. Apparently it will make the city more money, but there will be a lot more recyclable shit in the landfill because of it.

Here I thought when they announced a change coming that we were going to finally get curbside compost pickup. Yeah, no.
