I feel guilty as hell unless I ask if I can put even one bag of regular, sealed garbage in a bin not my own! I remember leaving for a trip and having only a single bag of garbage to my name. I went next door and rang the bell and sheepishly asked if I could just drop it in her bin so I wouldn't have to roll out my garbage bin and leave it in the street for an entire week while I was gone.

Ours lives at the end of our driveway. I wouldn't even notice. Unless it smelled awful. If we kept it close to the house I'd be bothered.

I wouldn't care but only because of our set up. We live on a corner and our driveway goes from the south of our yard, along the side of our house and curves out to the west side of our yard to the street. We have a wooden fence built around our 4 garbage cans along the west side. People could easily walk by and put stuff in the can on any day of the week. I would rather have it there than in my yard.

I wouldn't put it someone else's can, but if it's at the end of my driveway I wouldn't mind too much if someone did. It had better be well wrapped though, I don't want my garbage can smelling like dog shit.

Yes, because our bin wouldn't be picked up. We are very close to an off leash park so we have all kinds of issues with people doing stupid stuff (blocking us in our driveway by parking across the end of it, letting their dogs shit on our lawn, running into our house, etc). The regular garbage isn't binned, it's just bagged and sits at the curb for pick up, so it's al tied up tight and no one could add anything to it. There are 2 other bins that it would get tossed in. One is a recycle bin and one is an organics bin. The poo belongs in neither of those and the garbage guys always do a quick perusal before the arms pick up the bin. If the bins are sitting out, that means they're full and so the poo would be very visible on top and our bins would get refused. It's quite a hassle getting them to come back to retrieve the bins after they've refused pick up, so yeah, it would bug me.

ETA: when the bins are out, they are sitting on the street at the curb waiting for pick up. If they're not there, they are tucked away at the side of my house so that would perturb me because people would have to very obviously make an effort to come onto my property to dump their doggy shit. Normally, I don't know how much that would irk me, but as I said, we already deal with enough nonsense from the people going into the off leash, that them coming that far onto/into the property would irk me more than it might some other people.

I wouldn't care, and probably wouldn't even notice, if someone used our outside garbage can to dispose of their bag-o-poo. I would much rather they do that than leave it in my yard.

There are VERY strict rules about garbage in my city. Everyone that walks a dog down my street knows this (because they live here) and they know the rules - yet I cannot tell you the number of times someone has dropped a plastic bag of dog shit in my garden garbage bag as they walk by. Do you know what happens then? The garbage men won't take it - because no plastic allowed in garden garbage. So then I have to fish bags of dog shit out of my garbage and deal with it.

If you've got a dog take responsibility and carry that shit all the way home with you.

Clearly this is an issue for me

ETA Fanny - your organics doesn't take poop? Ours does. It's how we get rid of all our cat litter

Our garbage gets picked up from the back alley. If our bins are set out for pickup, I don't care. They already have donations from our cats & dogs inside. I do mind if people come onto my property to drop a bag in my bin. We have had people come into our yard & rip bags open to search through the garbage for recycling (we don't throw it in the bins, we take it in ourselves) or just generally snoop. That bugs the heck out of me & my husband. We have moved our bins further into our yard to discourage the pickers. They tear the bags open & let the trash blow all over the place.

I probably wouldn't mind if the cans were at the foot of the driveway, but when they pick it up, the large bag inside the can is always tied shut. They grab it out and throw it in the truck, and toss the lid (if we're lucky) on the ground beside the can. If someone put a little bag of dog poo on top of it, in the can, they'd likely miss it or it would fall out on the lawn and get missed. But no one has ever done that to my knowledge.
I can't think of anything witty to say for my signature line.
