    What is a prank? S/O

S/O from the thread about the parents that got their kids taken away for "pranks"....

What is a prank? Where's the line of acceptable? What pranks have you been involved in (as the pranker or the prankee)? Any pranks in your life that you think have gone to far?

In general, I think "prank" has come to mean "excuse for being really, really shitty to another human being, often one whom we profess to love or care about". I recently saw a video to a guy who put super hot sauce (or maybe it was actually hot pepper juice) on his girlfriend's thong before they went for a run. I was skeptical and think it might have been faked, but she was either in a lot of discomfort/pain, or acting that way. It just wasn't funny to me. Hahaha! I caused my loved one to be in great pain at a location pretty farm from home, and in a way she couldn't really do anything about it until she ran all the way home! Hahaha. Pranks are meant to be light-hearted and funny, and a smidge of embarrassment is maybe okay. But pain and humiliation is not a prank.

To me, a prank is a practical joke. It is not cruel, it is not harmful, and it doesn't damage anyone's physical or mental well-being or property.

A prank should leave it's victim laughing.
    Otherwise it's just cruel.
    I hate them.

    This.

Saran Wrap on the toilet, cold water dumped on someone in the shower, TP-ing a yard, that kind of thing. If there's emotional distress after the pranked person is let in on the joke, it's not "just a prank".

I have zéro sense of humor about pranks. That is the fastest way for someone to get me to despise them.

Yes, this. A prank is when my daughter unrolls the toilet paper and draws a spider on it, and then rolls it back up. Harmless and funny.

I'm here. I'm the same way about teasing.

My home is a no prank and no teasing zone. I will not tolerate either.

Yup. Not a fan of them in general because there's often an element of disappointment or discomfort on some level. Parents who prank their kids to the point of tears are just shitbags, EOD. I remember a video of a kid all psyched to open what he thought was an XBox or something, and when the box was empty the parents pissed themselves laughing. The kid was humiliated and damn near had ME in tears just watching him.
