I've been reading the books. Mary never even got married. So there's that.

The show definitely jumped the book shark starting in season one!

My father was just like Pa if Pa were an abusive alcoholic when he wasn't working at a task. Maybe we have good coping skills because the good side of my dad was so good.

This was the show we watched as a family when I was a kid.

I read the books so much when I was a kid they fell apart. I remember how excited I was to get a full set of the books one year as a gift because my other copies were just hand me downs.

The show was definitely different than the books but I loved watching the show too.

I remember the first time we watched the episode where Almanzo gave Laura the shawl at the dance, I was laughing myself to tears while my older sister kept shushing me because it was "romantic." I saw a rerun a couple of years later & I was firmly on the "that's sooo romantic" bench.

I loved the books, & reading them again when I was even older, I much preferred the low key proposal in the book.

I have! We went to the site of the original Little House at Independence, Kansas. They have a lot of original family stuff and some of the stuff used on the TV show. I loved it but it's not a huge drive for us, about 1.5 hours. If you are up this way I'd say it's worth a trip. I added some of my pictures of the cabin.

I always thought IRL Pa was kind of a jerk who dragged his family all over the country.

In the episodes where Caroline gets pregnant, I'm always distracted with the ick factor of all that sex going on with your kids right there.

The other year when dh lost a bet and had to plan an out of the ordinary date for us, he drove us to Pepin for the Laura Ingalls Wilder museum or whatever it is that's there, but it was closed for the season. I'll have to get him to take me back there sometime. I'd really like to see that.

Next year I'm planning a LHOP trip featuring a trip to the Independence, Ks and Missouri Farm site with some CT friends. Maybe hitting up Pioneer Women's cafe/store and a night at my family's farm in KS.

It was 1975, I was in fifth grade, and I was so excited to watch the first episode when it aired! By the end I was in tears and never watched another episode.

PA HAD A BUSHY BLACK BEARD. MR. EDWARDS WAS CLEAN SHAVEN. That was a HUGE thing in the books. And there was Michael Landon's naked dumb face.

    Stupid.
