Is it illegal to Publish a President's Tax Return

Even before Rachel Maddow disclosed two pages of President Trump’s 2005 tax returns on her MSNBC program, the White House accused her of complicity in unlawful conduct. “It is totally illegal to steal and publish tax returns,” a statement from the White House said.

The first part of the accusation, about stealing, is true. The second part, about publishing, runs headlong into the First Amendment.
Kind of yes, kind of no.

Now, Trump can say that people saw his taxes. The majority of people don't get into the weeds; so, if he did it, it was a smart move. And. beccaphel is right, great diversion.

Liberals want to see his "long form" tax returns this is just a certificate of live tax form.
Opportunities are usually disguised as hard work, so most people don't recognize them.

Why would he release it now? It's a no win situation and a fishing expedition.

Yep. He just didn't say when.

Obama said I could keep my insurance plan repeatedly.

And Obama apologized for that and admitted that the law was not well crafted.

That apology certainly helps all those who lost doctors and are paying a ton more for their policy.

So, if Trump apologizes and says his returns weren't "well crafted", which is why they are being audited, it'll all go away?

Nope, but I am so sick of "If you like your <whatever> you can keep your whatever" as justification for everything Trump does (or doesn't do).

It's not a justification. It's a realization that this is not the most important thing to focus on. Rachel Maddow wasted tons of air time building up a nothing burger. Tpatt is right, this is the birth certificate issue for Dems.
