I came up with an answer before I read the rest of your post, and it was "at least 20".

I think 10 years is a long term. It's a decade. Plus a lot can happen 10 years. In our first 10 years we finished school. Moved 3 times. Got our careers launched and had 3 kids.

It's probably an age thing, younger people might view 10 as long term because it might be half of their lifetime. As we get older our perspective of time changes.
Opportunities are usually disguised as hard work, so most people don't recognize them.

Now that I have been married for nearly 17 years, 10 years is nothing!

I just asked my wife and she said we are hitting our 15 year anniversary this June. I already forgot how long a decade is.....

When I hear that couples are divorcing after ten years, it doesn't strike me as long term. When I hear that people are divorcing after 25,30 years I'm usually stunned.

That was my in-laws -something like 35 years. They were still married when dh and I got together. Fil and his second wife have been married something in the neighbourhood of 20!

Better not be, we didn't celebrate a diamond anniversary last year.
