Woman whose son died while she pushed him in swing for 40 hours

Was just found "not responsible", which is the MD version of "not guilty by reason of insanity" and was freed on conditional release. (I.e. No jail [obviously] or inpatient psychiatric). She has schizophrenia.

She should never have or be responsible for another child.

Opportunities are usually disguised as hard work, so most people don't recognize them.

Hopefully that's part of the conditional release.

This is when I long for the return of the mental institutions. Better ones, obviously. But we have a lot of seriously mentally ill people who do a lot of suffering even though they have their freedom, as well as the suffering they occasionally inflict on others..

And the police are utterly unprepared to deal with them, and even then they have to identify them as mentally ill to begin with. Which can be a tough diagnosis on the fly for a non-clinician when someone's wielding a knife or gun and there are other civilians at risk.

I don't understand why she wasn't put into some sort of facility.

I hope she's getting some much needed treatment. In cases like this, they should be court-ordered to continue meds or be locked up somewhere.
