Each peach pear plum, was a favourite. As was "goodnight moon" and "guess how much I love you".

((Sigh...seems like it was in another lifetime that we were reading them))

For these types of showers I usually give 2 books: a board book by either Sandra Boynton or Eric Carle for hands-on for the kiddos, & "Dog Breath: The Horrible Trouble with Hally Tosis" or the "Dragon" books by Dav Pilkey, of "Captain Underpants" fame (infamy?), for a storybook to read to the child. I figure if a parent is going to read a book a bazillion times, they may as well be entertained.

The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein is a favorite of mine. It makes me cry every time I read it, lol.
I also second all the Eric Carle books, they are favorites of my pre-k set.

I am with your husband. Also, crawling through your grown son's bedroom window and rocking him to sleep should get you placed under a psych eval, not lauded as mother of the year. That is some seriously creepy enmeshment.

The monster at the end of this book (with Grover from Sesame Street) was my all time favorite. Hysterical for toddlers if you ham it up. My dad used to read it to me and he did Grover quite nicely. My kids all loved it, and now there's an app that my four year old adores.

Get the board book version of whatever you choose, if you can. Otherwise young toddlers destroy them in short order.
