    Finding a financial planner

I ended up having a very good year financially. Student loan and practice debt is being paid down, most is at a relatively low interest rate so I'd like to do some investing for retirement.

I have Roth IRA that I've maxed out contribution on this year. I don't have a 401k (don't have it set up for my office), DH has a 401k with match through the university.

How do you go about finding a financial planner? I tend not to trust anyone and I don't want to get ripped off... Is there like, an association of these people or something that you can trust?

I go to Edward Jones, but I'm biased because my mom works there.

But first, how's your emergency fund?

3 months solid. Longer if we had to turn off cable/internet/fun stuff too.

    Well done!

Personally, if it were me I would focus on debt reduction because 1) major stress reduction 2) it would bring you closer to being able to sell your business.

I use Edward Jones too. I use the same financial planner my dad used.

I'd ask my dentist friends for suggestions.

Ask around. I would go with personal RL recommendations. That's how we found ours. A lot of my former co-workers used him (financial people). He turned out to not be a great fit for us. We really liked him and he did us a lot of good but he was a little more aggressive than us . Sadly he got quite sick about 14 years ago and sold his business to a woman who is an amazing fit for us. We adore her.
